Mehndi is been used from the ancient times, i.e nearly 5000 years ago. According to many people mehndi is brought to India by the Mughals; however, some are of the view that it originated in India. Mehndi commonly referred to as “heena” is prepared from the leaves of plant called henna it is also known as cypress flower. The word “heena” is extracted from Latin Arabic name for Lawsonia Inermis which is pronounced as “hinna.”

Central Utah Adventure Travel

Venture into the center of Utah and you enter mining country. This area of Utah has a diverse ecosystem from the forest with lakes, wild flowers, flowing rivers to the painted desert. Central Utah is often overlooked as a vacation destination and this would be a mistake.

Take Spanish Fork Canyon to Price and you have made it to central Utah. Price is the largest town in the area so if you need supplies stock up here. Nine Mile Canyon has been recently purchased by the State. It is an archeological treasure trove. There is painted Indian art rocks and the land was held in private ownership until about two years ago.

After a visit to Nine Mile Canyon you will want to head south towards Huntington. The two lane highway here is very deceiving it looks desolate no trees. Travel to Huntington and follow the road sign to Huntington Canyon. After reaching the power plant the terrain will change and you won’t believe your eyes. Traveling into the Manti La Sal forest you will discover pristine streams, hiking trails through abundant wild flowers, ferns, aspen and a variety of trees. It is a great place to camp for the night and see the stars and smell the fresh air.

After visiting Huntington Canyon you will want to return to the desolate highway. If you want to visit a dig for dinosaur bones the town of Cleveland offers a look into the pit where archeologists will be working for a hundred years.

There are many options in the area to choose an adventure in the mountains here. Traveling on that same desolate highway through Orangeville you will discover orange sandstone as you travel up to Joe’s Valley. The crystal blue water, orange sandstone and ponderosa pine are a perfect place to have lunch.

When you reach the town of Castledale you will see a dirt road turn off towards the San Rafael Swell. The swell has been a favorite of the locals for years. If you hike off the dirt road you will find some of the most undisturbed Utah desert I know of. You will find Indian rock art in many unmarked places, see food storage on the cliffs, hear the meadowlarks off in the distance and feel like no one else is on the planet.

Traveling further south on that same desolate highway you will come to the town of Ferron. You will see a sign to the east take it to Ferron Canyon. Here you can visit small natural lakes, see a wide variety of wild life and enjoy scenic beauty that is rare these days.

Follow the same desolate highway to the I-70 interchange and catch highway 89 and take a scenic journey to Moab. Here is one of the most beautiful areas in Utah. Take a wild white water rafting trip, visit Arches National Park stay at a hotel after all the outdoors you will enjoy a bed.

When you drive down River Street from US 31, you will see the beginnings of blossoming flowers that fill the Holland, MI area. The city claims that more than 5,000,000 blooming bulbs are on display in parks, along streets and in local attractions.

For starters, visit the Veldheer Tulip Farm. This attractive farm began in 1945 with 100 red tulips and 300 white tulips. Now, there are tens of thousands of flowers that blossom every Spring. The farm hosts multiple gardens that teem with white tulips, yellow Big Smile, orange Apricot Dream, red Appeldorn, and literally dozens of other varieties and colors.

Veldheer Tulip Farm
The Veldheer Tulip Farm displays lily tulips, Darwin Hybrid tulips, peony (double) tulips, parrot tulips, Triumph tulips and specialty tulips. The grounds show blue, white, and pink hyacinths, white and yellow daffodils and narcissi.

Each garden has a numbered stake that identifies the type of flower. Visitors match the flower number with a printed guide sheet to learn more about the flowers. For those who want to order Holland tulip bulbs, visitors can order bulbs directly from Holland from the guide sheet, which are shipped the following September.

Nelis Dutch Village
If you are taking children and the family to Holland, make sure to visit Nelis’ Dutch Village. Dutch Village is a family theme park model buildings, authentic Dutch chocolate and licorice, Delftware, a wooden shoe factory, a working street organ, bell tower and photo spots for adults and children.

Dutch Village offers a beautiful setting for family fun. The spot has buildings modeled after 1800′s Netherlands cottage architecture. Each “garden” is identified by numbered stakes so that visitors know what the tulips are. Dutch Village is on US 31 on the northern edge of Holland.

Windmill Island
A third scenic spot to visit during the Holland Tulip Festival is Windmill Island. Windmill Island is the home of the “De Zwaan” (graceful bird,) a 240 year-old working windmill from the Netherlands. Located just off 7th Street, Windmill Island offers a shopping area, historic architecture including the Posthouse museum. During a good Spring, Windmill Island boasts 175,000 blooming tulips; during summer and fall, the gardens offer colorful annuals.

Make Sure to Visit Downtown
You can wander downtown Holland on 8th Street and view the many attractive settings and plantings of flowers. There are window boxes of colorful tulips along the quaint shops, rings of tulips around statues, small gardens and planters in cubby holes.

Hawthorn – Missouri’s State Flower

Hawthorn is Missouri’s official state flower emblem. It was Governor Arthur M. Hyde who signed the bill on March 16, 1923 naming it as their official flower. Hawthorn is a flower that belongs to the great rose family that bears the appearance of the apple group. It is known as the red or white haw that blossoms yellow green centers and outlines a white cluster. The country’s department of agriculture encourages the cultivation and of the flower because of its beauty, fruit, and foliage.

It was made as the official state flower of Missouri because of its distinct features. It is a lovely flowering tree that is appropriate for shading the porch, decorating the grass, and lining the street. It is sturdy since it can be grown in open areas as well as in the city. The leaves are unevenly arranged, indented, lobed, and appearing like long thorns. During fall, the leaves change from green to golden yellow and with traces of purple, red, and maroon colors. By May, the tree blooms pink, red or white flowers that consist of 5 petals in not less than 2 inches of clusters. In late September or early October, the tree produces red, apple-shaped fruits that can be used to make jelly or jam. The fruits continue to fill the tree until the winter months. The twigs are slim, gray with dark red terminal buds, and with noticeable thorns. The barks are beige-gray externally that sheds off to show a cinnamon-colored second layer. This happens on the branches as the tree matures and grows. Younger trees often have silver-green branches that rarely bear thorns.

In general, hawthorn is a thick shrub or small tree. The unique characteristics of the tree make it a worthy state flower emblem that best represent the state of Missouri.
